High Level Mobile App Flow

This document was an early experiment in mobile documentation. Since we could use the existing site as reference point, a high level flow of the hotel path for mobile was used to illustrate our requirements to an outside vendor.

iPad Concepts

Starting out on paper, the early discussion revolved around supporting shoppers, and bookers. Shoppers are the people sitting on their couch, watching TV, thinking about where they want to go to next. This is more about discovery and selling a destination through reviews, details and pictures. Shoppers are stuck in airport lounge, need a hotel for the night, or a new flight and need to quickly book on the go with their tablet:

The main concept was to take something we could never pull off on the web due to platform limitations and political issues, which was create a true shopping cart experience where travelers could create a trip by mixing and matching flights, cars and hotels from search results.

Below are the digital sketches presented to senior leadership to show what was possible if we were to build out an iPad app. These sketches helped make the case for Orbitz to build a tablet app and eventually resulted in the creation of a special team dedicated to tablet apps.

This screen from an early concept for an online travel booking app. Filtering is possible on the left, and the main concept is that you can build a trip with drawer at the bottom of the screen on the fly.

This is a visual map based view of hotel results. We wanted to take advantage of the larger interactive display, and people's familiarity with maps on tablets to display hotels spatially.
